MADISON, Wis. — With flooding attention of credit unions now being shifted to areas along the Mississippi River, CUNA Mutual Group predicted Friday damage and casualty claims seem certain to rise as more flood-related evacuations take place in communities in rain-soaked Iowa and Wisconsin.
"Because flooding is covered by federal insurance, there will likely be only a few CUNA Mutual Group coverages that will come into play for credit unions," said a spokesman. "However, staff from our Property & Casualty Claims area is continuing to contact credit unions in the affected areas to see how they are doing and to determine how we might be able to help."
So far, CUNA Mutual said it has received "only a few policyholders reporting minor water damage" but that will change amidst evacuations along rivers in Cedar Rapids, Des Moines and elsewhere.

CUNA Mutual said also it "just added a new Disaster Recovery Team link to our home page on cunamutual.com. It provides important information credit unions need if disaster strikes and also takes them to information on disaster prevention and preparation. Included is our disaster phone line (800-637-2676), which is staffed 24/7/365, and links to other external resources."
