ATHENS, Ga. — Georgia Federal Credit Union partnered with the College of Family and Consumer Sciences at the University of Georgia to provide the volunteer income tax assistance program this year.

The VITA program offers free income tax return preparation for low to moderate income individuals and families. Georgia FCU provided financial support, computer equipment, coordination and supervision of the VITA sessions. A total of 261 clients were assisted with their 2007 federal and state income tax returns.

Upon completion of the program, seventeen sessions were staffed by University of Georgia students enrolled in consumer finance programs under the supervision of college faculty. The student-volunteers completed the training and participated in the sessions as part of their academic program.
