RALEIGH, N.C. — State Employees' Credit Union recently partnered with the North Carolina Attorney General's Office, the Division of Aging and Adult Services, Adult Protective Services, the Retired Governmental Employees' Association and the Iron Mountain Shredding Co. to hold its first ever Scam Jam.
The event was designed to help members combat identity theft and fraud by providing educational workshops, informational booths and shredding services.
The Scam Jam was promoted to SECU's Golden Circle members, those 50 and older, within a one-hour driving distance of the Scam Jam site.

"Senior adults are the primary target for so many of today's scams, including identity theft. The credit union is aggressively working to educate our members about the various scams and fraudulent practices so they will be better prepared to recognize and avoid such activity," said SECU Security Administration Vice President Karen Daeke.
In addition to the Scam Jam, SECU has partnered with groups such as the Retired Government Employees' Association and the Attorney General's Office to host other educational presentations related to senior scams, elder abuse and identity theft. SECU also works aggressively to train its employees on scams, including elder financial abuse.
Daeke adds, "Knowledge is key in protecting yourself from savvy fraudsters who are more prevalent than ever before. Some of our members have fallen victim to various fraudulent practices, and the credit union is committed to helping members get the information they need to protect themselves now and in the future."
