WISCONSIN DELLS, Wis. — CUNA's "tell your story" campaign on community outreach has taken on a new down-home flavor this month with Wisconsin credit union executives providing their stories in videos and film clip interviews posted on a new Web site www.cudifference.org.

Using hand-held camcorders, a team of staffers from the Wisconsin Credit Union League conducted both on-site visits to CUs across the state and at last week's annual convention here to record testimonial, off-the-cuff "real stories" of how CUs have provided financial aid and loans to needy members.

League officials said they found many CU executives "still had misconceptions" about what the National Credit Union Foundation's REAL Solutions program actually means "or how they could benefit by being recognized as a REAL Solutions credit union."

To create a more folksy theme, the league put up the Web site and produced a 13-minute "unscripted" video shown to convention delegates and in addition asked attendees at the registration door to submit their own recorded "stories."

"We can always talk about the big payday programs and such, but until a credit union executive actually starts telling her or her story and the things achieved in a community, we simply are not documenting all that is being done," explained Chad Helminak, public relations specialist.

The Wisconsin effort is expected to dovetail next week with new REAL Solutions endeavors by NCUF to establish a new story-telling Web site plus a "REAL Solutions Impact Center" to demonstrate to lawmakers aggregated financial data covering specific states or markets.
