OGDEN, Utah — Goldenwest Credit Union has helped make a difference in area schools.

The credit union raised over $50,000 for nine local schools during its eighth annual 5K For Schools.

One hundred percent of the registration fees will be donated to the schools, with Goldenwest adding $5 for each entry received.

The race drew the largest crowd in the event's history, with 2,600 runners and walkers registered for the event.

The 5K is a fundraiser for nine local schools–Bonneville High School, South Ogden Junior High, T.H. Bell Junior High, H. Guy Child Elementary, MarLon Hills Elementary, Roosevelt Elementary, Uintah Elementary, Washington Terrace Elementary and Club Heights Elementary.

“The first year we held the 5K for Schools less than 100 people participated in the run,” said Shelley Clarke, Goldenwest president/CEO. “Since that first race, we have watched the number of runners grow each year, and the amount of money raised for our schools has increased.”

In addition to donating $5 for each race participant, Goldenwest donated the registration posters and forms, t-shirts, food, water and other items needed for the race.

Donated funds will help the schools purchase much needed equipment and materials and will support a variety of programs including athletics and clubs.
