WESTBROOK, Maine — The Maine Credit Union League and the National Credit Union Foundation have launched a disaster relief effort for CU members and employees hurt by the state's recent flooding.

A northern part of the state in and around Aroostook County saw widespread flooding from the St. John River and from a record snowfall this year. The region, which borders Canada, has five credit unions with a total of 16 branches and roughly 42,000 members, according to league spokesman Jon Paradise.

In response to this disaster, the league has asked for help on behalf of credit unions in Aroostook County. Any assistance and contributions to enable credit unions in Aroostook County to come to the aid of credit union members who have been impacted as a result of this disaster would be appreciated, the league said in a release.
