PORTLAND, Ore. — The $2.6 billion OnPoint Community Credit Union will make history when it issues credit cards for the first time later this year.
The CU has signed up with PSCU Financial Services, the payments CUSO serving more than 500 credit unions who process their cards on the First Data Corp. platform, according to an announcement from the cooperative.
The credit union, which is already a large auto lender, put the decision to start a card portfolio in the context of its existing lending.
“Credit is a natural complement to our other lending products, lead by our robust auto financing business,” said Robert A. Stuart, OnPoint Community Credit Union's CEO. “We feel the timing is right to enter this market with member-friendly card products that will deepen our member relationships.”
