TULSA, Okla. — Gary Jones, the retired president/CEO of the now merged Wilserv Credit Union of Tulsa, has been hired by the Oklahoma Credit Union League as "league liaison," a new post.

The league's acting or interim president/CEO, Debra J (DJ) Morrow Ingram, said Jones who started work last Monday would establish "goodwill among Oklahoma credit unions" plus distribute information about league products and services and field complaints and suggestions. A second liaison will be added in six months, said Ingram.

"Our credit unions have asked for this position and we've listened," said Ingram who has held down management of the league for nearly a year while its board has conducted a search for a permanent CEO.

Ingram said a number of leagues have similar liaisons but the position was dropped years ago by the league ago under previous managers. "We've found that many of smaller credit unions relied on this kind of liaison and so we're bringing it back," she said.

Jones, who left WilServ in November following its merger with the $336 million Oklahoma Central CU, served 20 years as president and started as a volunteer for the then Williams Employees CU. A former league director and officer, he chaired numerous league committees and in 2005 received the Troy Higgins Political Activist of the Year Award.

Separately, Ingram, who has been interim CEO for nearly a year, said talks are continuing with the Texas Credit Union League on possibly buying more "outsourced" services but the possibility of a league management pact patterned after California/Nevada, Colorado/Wyoming or one in New England looks less promising.
