EL PASO, Texas — The Texas Credit Union League is playing up the Credit Union Regulatory Improvements Act's (H.R. 1537) member business lending provisions in the media with results.
The April 14 Sunday edition of the El Paso Times featured a guest editorial by TCUL Chapter President Imelda Luya calling for Congress to "ease up on credit unions, boost the economy."
The editorial described the power of CU member business lending on an El Paso family which had been turned down by 15 banks in its effort to start a day care business.

Meanwhile, after similar meetings several weeks ago by league staffers with reporters and editors the Odessa American ran a column criticizing banks for blocking CURIA.
Both editorials, according to the league, were the result of its media campaign with more coverage in newspapers and radio stations planned for San Antonio and Texarkana. Editors and columnists "have spoken out in favor of lifting the cap," the league said.
