NAPERVILLE, Ill. — Adapting to the new technology, the Illinois Credit Union League has started a Dialogue with Dan blog for its president/CEO Dan Plauda.
The journal, found online at http://iculeague.blogspot.com, and linked to the league's Web site, includes regular postings about current trends and issues in the Illinois CU system.
"Credit unions are welcome to comment, ask questions and share their thoughts with Plauda via these postings, and at the same time, share information with their fellow credit unions," said the league. "Visitors to the blog can also choose to share postings with others via e-mail."

A sampling of other state leagues found no other formal CEO blogs but some since last year have applied the blogosphere with individual committees or councils or in developing readership and an exchange of views on e-mailed newsletters.
The most prominent has been the CU Communicators blog by the North Carolina League for its marketing council that includes opinions and artwork shared by southeast CU executives as well as consultants from as far away as British Columbia.
The North Carolina blog regularly tracks and promotes use of the Little Guy cartoon character at East Coast CUs and has been instrumental in developing an advocacy track team of Little Guy CU runners to run in Carolina races and the Cherry Blossom Run in Washington.
But in Ohio the Credit Union League said it halted a blog last July it had running for six months to develop member dialogue from its biweekly newsletter, e-Lumination.
"We just couldn't keep it going since there were not enough participants pecking out regular messages," explained Kate Walton, director of member communications. Members were asked if they were willing to comment on for example, small-business lending, helping the underserved "or whatever they wanted," she said.
One league communication executive, asking for anonymity on the Illinois idea, said she saw no need for a CEO blog in her state because "our members have no trouble discussing whatever issue is on their minds with our CEO."
"What's wrong with picking up the phone and calling? They get through," she said.
Apart from leagues, the CEO blog at CUs has been on the rise.
In promoting her husband, Patrick Adams, a popular speaker on the league circuit, Liz Adams, vice president of the Missouri Credit Union Association, noted that Patrick, president of St. Louis Community CU, "has a blog, too." His email is [email protected]
