BURLINGTON, Mass -- Eastern Corporate Federal Credit Union's ALM& Investment Academies reached the 10-year milestone earlierthis month, when 50 students completed coursework at Babson Collegein Wellesley, Mass.

Since first beginning in 1999, the program has expanded toprovide three curriculum tracks for introductory, intermediate andadvanced pupils. More than 400 credit union professionals andvolunteers have attended the program since its inception.

The introductory school offers an orientation to financialmanagement disciplines and investment markets. The intermediate andadvanced schools focus on risk management and portfoliodevelopment, relying on intensive use of case studies and studentinteraction as valuable learning tools.

"People attend for a variety of reasons," said Alan Bernstein,EasCorp senior vice president, business development and strategicplanning.

"CFOs and others responsible for portfolio and balance-sheetdecisions seek to broaden their ALM knowledge and increase theirskills, nonfinancial managers frequently attend as part of aprofessional development program; and credit union board orcommittee members often want to augment their board training."
