MIRAMAR, Fla. — Eastern Financial Florida Credit Union has recently received the My Boss Is a Patriot award from the National Guard and Reserve.
The credit union was honored for its support of 10-year employee Assistant Vice President for Insurance Services Yamilet Rubio, who is also a master sergeant with the Reserves.
A reservist for the past 20 years attached to a civil affairs battalion, Rubio was sent to Fort Dix to train servicemen and women from various military branches for deployment to Iraq a year and half ago.

"I heard horror stories from other reservists about the status of their jobs when they were away on duty, but I never had one problem. Eastern went 100% above what they were required. Not only that, my co-workers stepped up to support by husband and children while I was gone, and I can't express in words how much that meant to me," said Rubio.
In her absence, Eastern Financial Florida CU continued holding her position open until she returned and paying her the difference in her salary and what she makes as a reservist, and also continued her full health benefits.
Federal law does not require companies to pay employees on military duty and only requires them to pay health benefits up to one month from departure.
"Yamilet is a special person and excellent employee. We were extremely pleased to step up while she was out protecting our country's freedoms," said Eastern Financial Senior Vice President Gary Lanier.
