MISSOULA, Mont. — For Missoula Federal Credit Union green is the theme for this year's annual meeting.

For the first time the credit union will be hosting a Sustainability Fair in conjunction with its annual meeting.

The move is designed to make "going green" easier for members by having a variety of information sources from non-profit and conservation groups, to vendors of eco-friendly products all in one convenient spot. Attendees can not only get information on how and why to be more eco-friendly but also then visit merchants offering the products needed to be more eco-conscious.

Topics covered will range form building or remodeling with eco-friendly material and growing your own food/purchasing food from local stores, to landscaping/gardening responsibly, recycling and alternate transportation.

"We're really looking for a way to simplify the learning curve for people who want to be greener in their daily lives but either don't know where to start or don't have time to chase down information," said MFCU Senior Vice President Joni Walker. "This event will offer both sides of the coin."

In addition to the tradeshow-like event, the evening will feature seminars on financial topics as well as building and remodeling sustainably, plus prizes, giveaways and a brief business meeting

To further promote the green theme, MFCU is foregoing printed annual reports directing members instead to the MFCU Web site (www.missoulafcu.org) for an electronic version of its report.

MFCU's trend toward environmentally friendly efforts began just over a year ago when CEO Gary Clark suggested that the next branch be a green facility. Since then MFCU management and employees have been making efforts to become more educated and involved in making their daily business more environmentally friendly. "We still have way to go but we're chipping away at it," said Walker.
