GREENVILLE, S.C. — Greenville Federal Credit Union has cut the amount of times it takes to find a member's canceled check from hours to just seconds.

The $90 million CU just finished beta testing the Laser Check System from Millennial Vision Inc., a value-added reseller of Laserfiche document-imaging software.

Now Greenville FCU can store electronic check receipts and CD documents without involving paper, and quickly retrieve them without having to dig through boxes.

“We feel that we accomplished our goals, which was a really big deal for us–and especially our members,” said Tracy Dangerfield, the 18,000-member CU's vice president of information technology and chief information officer.

“Now everything we have will be stored electronically and we don't have to print hard copies of every document anymore. And we've gone from hours to seconds in retrieving documents,” Dangerfield said.

The system also offers digital check indexing and printing, with or without the MICR line. Greenville FCU chose the latter, avoiding having to purchase and format costly check printers.

Salt Lake City-based MVi said it expects to officially release the Laser Check System later this year.
