SAN JOSE, Calif. — Meriwest Credit Union has introduced a new online member acquisition and funding program.
The $1.1 billion CU serves about 75,000 members around the Silicon Valley and Bay Area and in Tucson, Ariz.
Meriwest (www.meriwest.com) said it worked with Online Resources Corp. to develop the module that integrates with its Symitar core processing system to allow non-members to join the CU, open a variety of products and fund the account with transfers from other financial institutions.

"This is really just a beginning for us. We will soon launch a more robust product selection and funding engine for our existing online members, allowing them to open additional products from their homes or work and fund them online at a time convenient to them," said Tony Cortez, Meriwest's vice president of marketing.
"Having accessibility to a physical location is no longer a need. The program is convenient and green. It's totally paperless, and there is no need to drive to a branch to open an account," Cortez said.
