SAN DIEGO — California Coast Credit Union Pres-ident/CEO Jim McPheters is retiring effective April 1, 2008.
McPheters, who has dedicated more than 35 years to the credit union movement, joined California Coast as its president/CEO in 1986. Under his leadership the credit union has grown from slightly more than $100 million to some $900 million in assets today, and membership has jumped from 18,000 to more than 66,000 members.
During McPheters' tenure, he also encouraged numerous technological advances to continually improve member service, including online banking, electronic bill pay, and online loan applications and decisions.

In addition, the credit union's many accomplishments include earning the Award for Workplace Excellence from Peter Barron Stark & Associates in the years 2000, 2002, 2004 and 2006. McPheters' ongoing support of financial education for all ages helped California Coast receive the top award for financial literacy among California credit unions from the Richard Myles Johnson Foundation in 2007. Before taking the helm at California Coast CU, he served as chief operating officer at Point Loma Federal Credit Union in San Diego for three years. From 1972 to 1983, he served at NCUA in positions of increasing responsibility, ranging from examiner to chief of member services. From 2005 to 2006, McPheters also served board chairman for the California Credit Union League.
"Under Jim's leadership, we have enjoyed tremendous growth both in our size and in the innovative services we have been able to offer our members," said California Coast CU Board Chairman Rick Knott. "With Jim's direction, the credit union grew while maintaining its passion for personalized, caring service to each member. We are grateful for his leadership and loyalty, and we wish him well in his retirement and future activities."
Upon McPheters' departure Senior Vice President Kathy Cady will serve as interim CEO.
