HOUSTON — JSC Federal Credit Union Vice Chairman/Membership Officer Curtis Collins is making history as the first credit union volunteer ever elected to the National Credit Union Foundation board.

Elected to a three-year term on the NCUF Board, Collins is an active Credit Union Development Educator and has volunteered at all levels of the credit union system for 43 years.

"While we evaluated an outstanding field of 12 highly qualified candidates," said NCUF Chairman Mary Cunningham, "board members agreed that Curtis will bring valuable fundraising expertise, state credit union foundation perspectives, and a renewed spirit of volunteerism."

In recent years, Collins has volunteered on the boards of the Texas Credit Union Foundation, the Texas Credit Union League, and the American Red Cross Houston Chapter. In addition, Collins was named "Volunteer of the Year" by the Texas Credit Union League in 2003.

"We are impressed at how the Texas Credit Union Foundation generated significant increases in the Community Investment Fund," said NCUF Governance and Nominations Committee Chairman Chuck Purvis, after leading committee interviews of four final candidates. "Several new investments were due in large part to Curtis' efforts to promote the CIF's nationwide and statewide benefits to local credit union volunteers as well as managers."

With NCUF running a wide range of CIF-funded programs including REAL Solutions, CU Development Education, Social Impact Management, Innovation Grants, and CU Aid, Curtis seemed the natural choice to help the board ensure such programs make the maximum positive impact on the credit union movement added NCUF Vice Chairman Allan McMorris.

"It is an honor to work with each of the NCUF Board members and staff in carrying on the great programs the Foundation is implementing," said Collins. "I will enthusiastically work for the continued success of the foundation's current programs and the development of new programs and projects to financially enhance credit unions and their members."

Collins will take part in the NCUF Board's organizational meeting in Denver.
