PENROSE, N.C. — Nine-year-old Ansley Harron is the talk of the $46 million Carolina Mountains Credit Union and she's also the prize winner at school science fairs for her exhibit on the CU's deposit flows based on spreadsheet analysis.

"We've always taught our kids about the importance of education but I did not expect Ansley could start winning awards for charting branch traffic patterns at my credit union," confessed the proud papa, Brian Harron, chief financial officer of Carolina Mountains.

Since January, Ansley won first place at her Brevard elementary school for her CU deposit flow charts with her exhibit later placing second in a countywide competition, making her eligible to vie in the Western Carolina Math Fair in Boone on April 12.

Based on November and December teller reports, Ansley's charts showed which days were the busiest at the CU using Excel spreadsheets. Beside her father, Ansley also consulted with Diane Rogers, CEO of Carolina Mountains, asking her questions about the importance of such information relating to holiday closures.

"I have to say that my wife, Lynn, and I do discuss credit unions at the dinner table but putting together this exhibit was completely Ansley's idea," said Harron.

Ansley's findings, said Harron, have already confirmed conclusions "that we made some smart decisions about staffing" some time ago.
