PHOENIX — Desert Schools Federal Credit Union recently served as presenting sponsor of a different kind of football event for kids–the 2008 Snoop Bowl. For the fifth year in a row the Snoop Bowl took place one day before the actual Super Bowl in the host city. Held at Hamilton High School in Chandler, the credit union also gave away a pair of tickets to Super Bowl XLII.

American rapper, record producer, and actor, Snoop (known professionally as Snoop Dogg), is best known as an emcee in the West Coast hip hop scene, and for being one of producer Dr. Dre's most notable prot?(C)g?(C)s.

Snoop became a coach to nearly 2,500 kids in 10 local chapters throughout California for the Snoop Youth Football League, a cause he's championed for several years. As the owner and coach of the league, Snoop subsidizes approximately $2 million dollars annually to create extracurricular activities for children in the hopes of preparing them to become tomorrow's leaders.

The game features youth football players from Snoop's League in Southern California vs. a group of similarly sized/aged kids from the city hosting the Super Bowl. Kids who participate must maintain strict academic requirements.

Proceeds from the game benefit the Matt Leinart Foundation (www.mattleinartfoundation.org). For the past several years Desert Schools Federal Credit Union has partnered with the Arizona Cardinals in the areas of community giving, sponsorships and co-branded designer accounts such as Desert Schools Cardinals Checking.

The event attracted sellout crowds of nearly 6,000 people from all over the nation, with many fans driving in from California and surrounding states to meet Snoop and support the Matt Leinart Foundation.
