PHOENIX — Could actual Congressional hearings begin on CURIA during or after the GAC conference in Washington next month?
If you talk to the leaders of Arizona credit unions, involved in national and state lobbying, the answer might be yes with the House Financial Services Committee supposedly set to begin a session on March 6.
"I think we're all pretty excited about that prospect which was the talk of our own GAC conference last week," said Linda Dhaemers, chairman of the Arizona Credit Union System and president/CEO of Desert Energy FCU of Tucson.

However, a spokesman for Rep. Paul Kanjorski (D. Pa.) the second-ranking Democrat on the House Financial Services Committee, downplayed the notion of a hearing date. "We will decide when there would be a hearing," insisted the spokesman.
At the league's annual legislative conference last week held at a Phoenix airport hotel, the possibility of CURIA hearings "starting during GAC" was mentioned during talks by CUNA staff members. A CUNA spokesman declined comment on any CURIA hearings or what was said in Phoenix.
