WASHINGTON — Steve Preston, head of the Small Business Administration, will outline the agency's priorities for 2008 in his "State of the SBA" speech.

The speech will take place at 1:00 p.m. EST Jan. 22 at the National Press Club in Washington.

SBA Administrator Preston will report on the agency's progress in reforming the Disaster Assistance program, boosting outreach to underserved markets and increasing overall agency effectiveness and efficiency. In addition, he will highlight other administration policy goals such as passing pending free trade agreements, SBA said.

In a November 2007 opinion piece written for Credit Union Times, Preston highlighted the important partnership SBA has with credit unions. Nearly 400 credit unions are SBA lenders. Preston said the agency is working harder to make its programs easier for the industry to use.
