PORTSMOUTH, N.H. — Service Credit Union will honor the civil rights legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. with a $30,000 donation towards the building of a memorial currently underway on the National Mall in Washington.

"Service Credit Union is proud to be among those honoring the life of Doctor King through the creation of this historic monument," said Gordon Simmons, president/CEO of $1 billion Service Credit Union. "Dr. King personified social responsibility and the ideals that we live by at credit unions. He continues to inspire us with his remarkable leadership."

The Martin Luther King Jr. National Memorial Project Foundation (www.mlkmemorial.org) is currently raising $100 million towards the building of the memorial and center that will feature King's life and accomplishments. To date, the foundation has raised more than $84 million. The memorial is scheduled to be completed in 2009.
