OTTUMWA, Iowa — The $220 million Community First CU adopted CUNA's "Little Guy" this week with posters, newspaper ads and a billboard in line with the start of a more-focused ad blitz aimed at Iowa legislators and sponsored by the Iowa Credit Union League.

"We are constantly striving to educate the public on what a credit union is and so we just think the ads are great in symbolizing who we serve," said Ann Hagen, marketing manager.

The Ottumwa CU becomes one of the early "Little Guy" branding advocates following the formal launch of a league radio, newspaper and billboard campaign coinciding with the opening of the Iowa legislature on Monday. The league's initial "Little Guy" billboard appeared Jan. 3 on a downtown Des Moines billboard on Presidential Caucus Day.

Hagen said "the simplicity of the ads" really work in conveying a positive CU message, particularly the cartoon characters depicting the factory worker, businessman and the farmer. She said Community First with 13 branches including those in Ottumwa and Cedar Rapids would carry the posters and newspaper ads would each include a special portion devoted to the "Little Guy."
