WASHINGTON — Thanks to NAFCU President Fred Becker, "America's best kept secret" is out.
During a recent radio tour Becker told listeners through a series of interviews with stations in markets across the country that credit unions are "America's best kept secret" and encouraged consumers to seek out and join a credit union. During the interviews, Becker cited both NAFCU's and NCUA's Web site as resources for those considering credit union membership. He also suggested that listeners reach out to their family members, employers and community members to determine if they are credit union members. He also reviewed the benefits of credit union membership noting that the institutions generally have better loan rates and lower fees than competitors.
Becker wrapped up informing listeners of the DataTrac feature of NAFCU's Web site (www.nafcu.org). He also mentioned the recent Money magazine article calling credit unions "the best little deal in banking." He visited with Money magazine in September and continued conversations through October for the piece.
The radio tour is just another part of NAFCU's ongoing outreach efforts to promote greater awareness of credit unions as well as the value of membership.
