MADISON, Wis. — There's a new way to learn more about Drive for Hope.

Organizers of the third-annual Drive for Hope, formerly the Brian Howell Lung Cancer Research Golf Open and the Sue and Eugene Hanmer Memorial Golf Outing, have recently unveiled a new Web site at www.driveforhopemadison.com.

The Web site provides information for golfers, sponsors, donors and event media sponsors.

To date, Drive for Hope has raised $163,000, thanks in part to aid from the credit union community, including past years' sponsors FORUM Credit Union, Summit Credit Union, CUNA Mutual Group, World Council of Credit Unions, CUES Wisconsin Council, First South Credit Union, Workers' Credit Union, Great Wisconsin Credit Union, and many more.

The golf outing and Web site benefit the “Creating Hope” Lung Cancer Campaign, which provides facilities, research staff, and support for a national lung cancer research wing at the University of Wisconsin Paul P. Carbone Comprehensive Cancer Center in Madison. Online visitors will also find lung cancer facts and resources, a remembrance page and a recognition page.

“Drive for Hope would not have reached the level of success it has over the past two years without the support of the credit union movement, and I am truly grateful,” said CUES President/CEO Fred Johnson, who lost his wife, Linda Aplas Johnson, to lung cancer in 2006. “We still have a long way to go in our battle against this terrible disease, and this admirable generosity is essential to our fundraising efforts.”

The 2008 event is slated for Aug. 11 at Bishops Bay Country Club in Middleton, Wisconsin. To sponsor or donate to the 2008 Drive for Hope, visit www.driveforhopemadison.com; contact Karin Weiss at 608.288.5341; or e-mail [email protected].
