ANCHORAGE, Alaska — To help save more lives, Alaska USA Insurance Brokers, a wholly-owned CUSO of $3.2 billion Alaska USA Federal Credit Union, has given a $16,782 grant to the Ninilchik Fire Department for new life-saving equipment.

The fire department will use the grant to buy a new, high-tech heart monitor and defibrillator, said Fired Chief Mike Chihuly. The device is used to issue a jolt of electricity directed in the heart to get it back to its original rhythmic beat for persons who have experienced sudden cardiac arrest.

Alaska USA Insurance Brokers is one of the largest Fireman's Fund carriers in the Pacific Northwest and the largest independent brokerage in Alaska, providing insurance coverage for businesses and individuals, including commercial risk solutions and employee benefits, homeowners, auto, boat and life insurance, according to Alaska USA FCU.
