BURNABY, British Columbia — Summit Information Systems is expanding its move into Canada, opening a data center in Vancouver with plans under way for another one in the Toronto area by year's end.

The Oregon-based business unit of Fiserv Inc. already recently opened an operations center in Burnaby to provide training, consulting and support to clients running the iSpectrum core processing system for Canadian credit unions.

Summit says the new Vancouver data center is co-located with Bell Canada and uses the main Internet pipeline for western Canada and redundant hardware (including fiber optics) to ensure security and uptime.

The Toronto center will function as the real-time backup and recovery facility, adding geographic diversity for additional redundancy.

"Once fully deployed, the iSpectrum system will be continuously backed up to the Toronto data center. In the event of a disaster, the credit union can use the browser interface to point to a different URL, and their data are available in seconds. There are no tapes to retrieve or reload. There is simply no legacy in the iSpectrum system," says Clive Raher, director of the Summit Burnaby operations center.

"Our Vancouver data center has the latest, most advanced technology in place. our entire way of operating and service delivery is all new," adds Kevin Sparks, president of Summit Information Systems.
