Online Application Abandonment Occurs More than Half the Time

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. — A majority of U.S. consumers who begin online applications don't complete them, according to a new study by Forrester Research and comScore. Many didn't intend to when they started, the study found, while lack of information and other problems stymied others. The report also found that many of those who stop do pick up the process later and complete it.

BOSTON — Cash management functionality may be the way to a business' heart, according to a new report from Aite Group. A subset of that argument is the technology to easily transfer money for overseas commerce, something a growing number of small financial institutions like community banks and credit unions apparently are taking on as they try to attract the attractive small-business business. "Traditional cash management, as we once knew it, is now a thing of the past," says Aite Group analyst Christine Barry.

IT Spending Seen on Uptick Among Biggest Spenders in 2008

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. — Big businesses are leading the way again in IT spending after a few years of small and medium businesses heading the list, according to an analysis of U.S. Department of Commerce and vendor data by Forrester Research. The think firm is advising that CIOs plan on budget increases of 5% to 7% for 2008, and that the second and third quarters of each fiscal year are perhaps the best time to negotiate the best deal with vendors, as sales tend to be weaker then.

Remote Deposit Capture Catapults Post-Check 21

BOSTON — Remote deposit capture (RDC) has become as super-charged as image-based check processing in the wake of Check 21. A new report by Celent estimates that more than 4,000 financial institutions will have RDC in place by year's end, and that, driven by small business adoption, the number of devices in place (seats) will exceed 5 million by 2012.
