LAS VEGAS — As they have done now for six years, Texas bankers and credit union executives will be rubbing shoulders and coursing the aisles for the annual TechMecca Conference Nov. 28-29 sponsored by the Texas Credit Union League and the Independent Bankers Association of Texas but there are two new wrinkles this year.
This is the first time the conference devoted to the latest software and hardware is being held in Las Vegas and second, SWACHA, the automated payments network is helping co-sponsor.
Officials of both the league and the IBAT stress there has never been a problem with the two competing industries getting along because they share much in common dealing with identical vendors.

"This is a good example of cross pollination," said Rick Grady, vice president of marketing at the Texas League. Echoing a similar view, Jane Holstien, senior vice president of IBAT, said "we recognize there are economies of scale and costs saved by working together and sharing."
Past TechMecca conclaves have been held in Dallas, Austin, New Orleans and other Texas cities but this year "we decided to try something new," said Holstien. This year's conference is expected to draw about 300, down slightly from last year due in large part to a bevy of Vegas financial tech conferences this month. "We're up against BAI and America's Community Bankers all ahead of us," she said.
