DALLAS — Students of 25 Texas teachers that teach financial literacy will have more to draw from thanks to grants totaling $10,000 from the Texas Credit Union Foundation.
The grants provided assistance for teachers to attend the National Council on Economic Education's Annual Conference in early October in Denver. Developed in partnership with the Texas Council on Economic Education, one of TCUF's key statewide partners in promoting financial education in the schools, the grants were based on each recipient's demonstrated need, as well as being a member of a credit union.
"Many of the teachers have very limited budgets that would have prevented them from attending this conference," said Jill Pharr, TCUF executive director. "We felt it was important to assist them in attending. We also wanted to strengthen the bond between the teachers and their credit unions, so the scholarship program was open only to teachers who are credit union members."

"The Texas Council has been wonderful to recognize credit unions and TCUF for their support to their teachers," Pharr said. "They help us get the message out that credit unions are not only serving their members, but also making financial education available to their students."
