LA HABRA, Calif. — Wanting to know what teens want from their credit union membership, American First Credit Union recently hosted a teen advisory panel.

Participating teens were asked to comment on what financial products and services interest and attract them, what they want the credit union's Web site to look like and do for them and what marketing materials attract their attention.

The teens, ranging from ages 13 to 19 from 10 different schools throughout Orange County and Los Angeles, California participated in the panel during their summer school break.

The panel was organized as part of the credit union's efforts to ensure it is meeting the financial needs of its younger members. The interactive discussion took place in front of a live audience made up of parents, American First executive staff members and other students who asked the panel probing questions about their financial patterns and preferences.

Teens who made up the panel each received a free lunch and $25 gift card for their participation.

Throughout the discussions, American First learned that their technology-savvy teens want quick and easy access to information, usually through electronic delivery channels.

As a result of the feedback, American First is currently developing plans to evaluate and enhance its youth financial programs to better serve this target audience. The credit union also plans to recruit new students and host other teen panel discussions each quarter.

"We thank the teen panel for their participation, honesty and insight and look forward to utilizing the panel's input to continue developing products and services to fit the lifestyles of our younger members," said American First President/CEO Bob Street.
