RANCHO CUCAMONGA, Calif. — The California Credit Union Leagueexpressed disappointment and a degree of shock that Governor ArnoldSchwarzenegger vetoed a measure THAT would have moved the cardindustry's data security standards into state law.

The League had backed the legislation and helped steer itsheavily favored movement through the state legislature.

“This is disappointing news for consumers throughout Californiawho remain without protection from data and credit card thefts,”said Bill Cheney, League president and CEO. “Credit unions believestrongly about protecting consumer data, and we pledge to renew ourefforts to help pass this important measure as soon as thelegislature reconvenes.”
