LANSING, Mich. — NuUnion Credit Union is bringing music into the lives of area residents.
The credit union is sponsoring the Lansing Symphony's Family Concert this month.
"For me, contributing time, talent and money to organizations such as the Lansing Symphony Orchestra is simply another part of living a rich and rewarding life," said NuUnion CU Senior Vice President and Lansing Symphony Board President Chris Day.
Day's concept of contributing and giving back to the community is central to the vision of philanthropy shared by other leaders at NuUnion.
"We have been fortunate enough to grow substantially over our 55-year history and we now occupy an entire city block in downtown Lansing," Day said. "We have nearly 300 people working at NuUnion. We help people attain their aspirations by providing solutions for buying a house, raising families, sending kids to school, advancing education, planning for retirement, and much more. We help people make their lives better–we are simply people helping other people."
Community involvement is nothing new for the credit union. NuUnion employees are committed to nurturing financial literacy, and the organization is one of only a few financial institutions with a consumer education library. Employees have set up credit unions in schools to help elementary students understand financial issues, and many are involved with service organizations in the community.
In addition to supporting the Lansing Symphony Orchestra, the credit union sponsors Movies in the Park in DeWitt and the City of Lansing's 4th of July Fireworks. NuUnion also contributes substantially to Lansing's Common Ground music festival, performances at Boarshead Theatre and Wharton Center for the Performing Arts, Komen's Race for the Cure, and other organizations and events.
"We understand that getting out in the community and helping other people provides returns for NuUnion. People get to know us, they like what we are about, and they decide they want to do business with us," he said. "And that is where the missions of NuUnion and the Lansing Symphony intersect–in that space where we are all working to enrich lives."
