FCU President/CEO Robert Chaffino. "Because we've served the financial needs of their teachers and parents, we're a familiar and trusted name, putting us in a unique position to help students develop good money management habits."
A Right Start Checking account is offered to members in good standing who are full-time students shortly after they turn 16. The account comes with free online and phone banking, free Bill Pay, and a line of credit up to $100 for overdraft protection.
At age 17, those same members are pre-approved for a Visa credit card with a credit limit of at least $500. Chaffino says the credit union is aware that students' financial habits are vastly different from their parents.
"This generation shops, gets information and keeps up with friends online. They prefer immediate online access services," said Chaffino. "So we emphasize 24-hour home banking, free Bill Pay and the use of more than 25,000 free CO-OP ATMs including 5,500 in 7-Eleven stores."
The credit union has also made its Web site PDA
friendly, so members can browse "on the go."
