SHREWSBURY, N.J. — The issue of private insurance is heating up again as Washington State looks at reinstating a private insurance regulation.

Some say private insurance is essential for ensuring a dual chartering system. Others say private insurance is too risky because it does not have the backing of the federal government.

It is worth noting that in the credit union space, private insurance is only offered by American Share Insurance, Dublin, Ohio, so the debate cannot happen without considering the status of ASI.
