LANSING, Mich. — NuUnion Credit Union has recently honored one of its legacy members, Benjamin Holderied.

NuUnion President/CEO Steve Winninger presented a commemorative plaque to Holderied recognizing him as a pioneer of the credit union movement and helping build a strong foundation for NuUnion, formerly State Employees Credit Union.

“Thanks to the dedication and hard work of such members as Ben, we've experienced tremendous growth and developed into one of the most respected member-owned financial institutions in Michigan and the United States,” said Winninger. “We wouldn't be where we are today without our legacy members.”

Holderied became the 89th member on September 15, 1952 and served on the Auditing Committee.

“When we performed our first audit, the cash assets were contained in a wooden cigar box and total assets were less then $5,000. The credit union has certainly grown since I served on the Auditing Committee with several other state employees over 50 years ago,” said Holderied upon accepting the plaque.

Today NuUnion boasts some 88,000 members, has over $800 million in assets and 14 branches.
