WASHINGTON–California & Nevada Credit Union League Director of Federal Government Affairs Ryan Donovan will be joining CUNA's staff Sept. 4.

While at the leagues, Donovan represented the organizations before members of Congress and their staffs, NCUA, and other government agencies. He also worked closely with CUNA's political and government affairs team.

Prior to joining the leagues in 2005, Donovan served as chief of staff and legislative director for House Financial Services Committee Member Brad Sherman (D-Calif.), a strong credit union supporter. He also worked for House Democratic Leader Richard Gephardt (D-Mo.) from 1997 to 2000.

“Ryan has nearly a decade of Capitol Hill experience with two prominent members of Congress and understands the financial public policy process,” CUNA Legislative Affairs Senior Vice President John Magill commented. “He has cultivated many important relationships during his tenure with the leagues. Coupled with his energy and mastery of credit union issues, CUNA has joining its legislative team an extremely effective and insightful advocate for America's credit unions.”

Donovan was involved in key pieces of financial services legislation including Check 21, the Fair and Accurate Credit Transaction (FACT) Act, Sarbanes-Oxley, and the Financial Services Regulatory Relief Act.

He will replace Dean Sagar who is leaving CUNA at the end of August after just

16 months.
