Kohler Credit Union, Kohler, Wis., was awarded the Wisconsin Department of Public Education's 2007 Business Friends of Education Award. The CU was recognized for the numerous education opportunities provided to students, parents and teachers; for its financial support over the years; and its partnership with North and South high schools to open student-run credit unions. The State Superintendent's Business Friends of Education Award recognizes exemplary businesses/employers that provide quality work-based learning experiences for Wisconsin students. Awardees were recognized during a breakfast ceremony.

Sunmark Federal Credit Union, Albany, N.Y., recently announced that it officially opened the doors of its ninth branch in the Capital Region. The new branch is located at 2 Tower Way. The Halfmoon-Clifton Park Branch is approximately 3,300 square-feet and will be home to a full staff of financial services and member services associates. The new branch features a night drop box that will accommodate both commercial and consumer deposits, a full service drive-up ATM and additional lanes for financial services.
St. Vrain Valley Credit Union, Longmont, Colo., has announced the construction of a new branch located in Longmont. After delays from winter storms, construction of the branch office is underway. This will be the second full-service branch offered by the CU in Longmont.
DONATIONS
Kent, Ohio-based Kent Credit Union and two of its employees, Kathy Oostdyk and Connie Edwards, recently spearheaded a drive to help the animals at the Portage Animal Protective League make it through the winter months. They rallied the staff in Kent's four locations and got the KCU membership involved by asking for donations of needed items or cash that could be donated to benefit the PAPL. Many items were collected such as dog and cat food, kitty litter, blankets, rugs, leashes, collars, paper towels, latex gloves, cleaning supplies, rags, towels, tons of toys, and more, as well as $400. The PAPL staff was very grateful for the donations.
North Jersey Federal Credit Union, Totowa, N.J., presented Eva's Village with new clothing items collected during its Winter Accessory Drive. Eva's Village depends on the kindness and generosity of caring individuals and even the smallest gift can help make a difference. Since 1982, Eva's Village of Paterson has been dedicated to feeding the hungry, sheltering the homeless and offering medical and addiction treatment free of charge to those less fortunate.
TexasOne Community Credit Union, Houston, has adopted Holbrook Elementary School. Through the adoption program, the credit union will mentor and tutor students, motivate and reward teachers and provide much needed office equipment to the school. Holbrook Elementary is considered at Title 1 School, which means that at least 40% of the children are from economically disadvantaged families. The school would benefit from additional resources to provide gifts of time and instructional supplies for students.

CUT: The four winners of this year's Insight Financial scholarships were: Evan Chabot; Beverly Coe; Kimberly A. Fehn; and Corey Stano.
Insight Financial Credit Union of Orlando Fla. and the Paul H. Higgs family awarded four $1,000 scholarships to graduating seniors this year. Lynn W. Owen III, president/CEO of Insight Financial, and Board Chairman Maurice T. Webber presented the scholarships at Insight Financial's annual meeting. Applicants for this year's scholarships were required to submit an essay focusing on the importance of learning how to effectively manage finances at a young age and how the credit union can help their generation meet its financial goals.
