ALEXANDRIA, Va. — NCUA Chairman JoAnn Johnson urged credit unions to take part in a Treasury sponsored test of the financial sector's ability to handle a bird flu outbreak or other pandemic.

The online exercise aims to bring together institutions of all sizes from every portion of the financial services to examine contingency plans, including continuity of operations, transportation, telecommunications, human resources and energy. The test will take place on a secure Web site from Sept. 24 through Oct. 10, 2007, simulating a potential outbreak.

"It will provide an excellent opportunity to test your continuity of operations plan, identify potential areas for improvement and learn from the experience of others," Johnson commented.
