SAN DIEGO — North Island Credit Union is ready for its new “island” headquarters to be a “green” experience.
The credit union has recently broken ground on a new “green” six-story, 130,000 square-foot headquarters in Kearny Mesa.
Building designer H2A Architects plans to combine “island-inspired” elements with environmentally friendly features in the facility slated to open in late 2008.
From the use of recycled water for irrigation and recycled materials, to renewable materials such as bamboo flooring and recycling of construction debris, efforts have been made in all aspects of the design and construction to make the building as “green” as possible.
Swinerton Builders has been tapped to construct the building. Once completed, plans include applying to the U.S. Green Building Council for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design certification.
