LATHAM, N.Y. — Congressman Gregory Meeks (D-N.Y.) recently participated in the New York State Credit Union League's Metropolitan Chapter roundtable at Melrose Credit Union in Queens.

Representatives from more than 10 credit unions attended the event to speak to the congressman about the issues facing their credit unions and their members, what type of outreach they are doing in their respective communities, and how the Credit Union Regulatory Improvements Act (H.R.1537) and other legislation could impact credit unions. Meeks is a CURIA co-sponsor, one of 10 from New York.

"Credit unions are important to me, because they are important to people," Meeks, a member of the House Financial Services Committee, commented. "By strengthening credit unions, we strengthen the community." Approximately 47,000 credit union members live in Meeks' district.
