NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Attendees of CUNA Mutual's Discovery Conference here were treated to a lively opening panel discussion with some of the top leaders in the industry.
Credit Union Times Editor/Publisher Paul Gentile moderated the panel, which consisted of (see picture at www.cutimes.com) CO-OP Financial Services CEO Stan Hollen, WesCorp CEO Bob Siravo, CUNA Mutual CEO Jeff Post, and Fiserv Credit Union Division President Joe Barry.
The wide-ranging session covered everything from whether or not CUNA Mutual will ever change its name, how much more corporate consolidation there will be to the issue of small CUs disappearing and potential CU hostile takeovers.

All panelists did agree on one thing. Credit unions need to collaborate more industry wide to gain economies of scale and stay competitive and try to move the needle on credit unions' 6% marketshare. The potential for a national branding campaign was also a hallmark of the session. It was clear the leaders believe in the concept, but how to do it is the hard part.
