ARLINGTON, Va. — To help build a national memorial to honor the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. NAFCU is calling on the credit union movement to be a part of the effort.
The Martin Luther King Jr. National Memorial Project Foundation, http://www.mlkmemorial.org/, is spearheading an effort to raise $100 million to build a national monument and visitors' center on the National Mall. The foundation has raised roughly $70 million towards with plans to have the memorial completed by fall 2008.
NAFCU has produced press-ready artwork in PDF format that can be downloaded at http://www.nafcu.org//Content/NavigationMenu/News/MLK_Memorial/MLK_Memorial.htm for credit unions to send in a donation or to produce their own pledge cards that can be used as statement stuffers. A copy of the official MKL National Memorial logo to be used on a custom-designed pledge card can also be downloaded.

The African-American Credit Union Coalition is in the midst of a fundraising campaign to assist the MLK foundation in reaching its goal. Through AACUC, credit unions, leagues, vendors and individuals have pledged more than $800,000 with more than $400,000 in actual donations.
