WASHINGTON — John Adams Presidential $1 coins are heading for the nation's banks and credit unions.A ceremonial launch was held May 22 in Quincy, Mass., celebrating the first coin ever featuring Adams. The coins were actually released May 17.

"John Adams was a great patriot who helped draft the Declaration of Independence and served as Vice President and then President of our Nation in its early days," said Director Edmund C. Moy. "This new coin provides the opportunity to learn more about our second President and his fascinating life. With the John Adams Presidential $1 Coin, like the George Washington Presidential $1 Coin before it, Americans are discovering that using a dollar coin is more convenient in many transactions."The George Washington Presidential $1 Coin was released Feb. 15, 2007, in time for Presidents Day.
