DONATIONS

As a result of the 2006 Giving Tree fundraising event held during Dec. 2006, CASE Credit Union, Lansing, Mich., raised and donated over $2,370 to the Angel House in Mason. Additionally, CASE donated a seven foot fully decorated holiday theme--Holiday Cookie Cutter--tree as well as a variety of teddy bears and other toys given by an individual CASE member. To raise funds, CASE staff held weekly "jeans days" and employee raffles and purchased, decorated and auctioned a variety of lighted holiday themed trees including a Barbie Doll tree, tropical holiday palm tree, teacher tree, white polar bear tree, hold 'em or fold them poker tree and more. Angel House is a program provided through Child & Family Services that care for children in crisis in the Ingham county area--children who have been taken into protective custody because of sexual and/or physical abuse.

EECU, Fort Worth, Texas, recently awarded $10,000 to one of it's members as part of it's auto loan campaign. During the month of January, individuals had the opportunity to win a grand prize of $10,000 cash and secondary prizes of ten, $250 gift cards. The winner, Amanda, has been a member since 2004 and has financed her last three vehicles with EECU through CU Auto Sales, a preferred used vehicle dealer of EECU.

Keys Federal Credit Union, Key West, Fla., proudly contributed $1,000 to the Literacy Volunteers of America-Monroe County, an organization dedicated to teaching the citizens of its community to read, write and speak more effectively. With the $1,000 contribution the credit union will be a Gold-Corporate Sponsor. The funds will be used to train volunteer tutors, purchase books, notebooks, dictionaries, and creative materials for students.

AltaOne Federal Credit Union, Bishop, Calif., recently donated $860 to Wild Iris of Inyo County. Wild Iris is a community based nonprofit agency, committed to promoting, providing and sustaining programs of education and prevention, crisis intervention, advocacy and support for those affected by domestic violence, child abuse, and sexual assault. The funds were raised through AltaOne's Skip Pay program. Qualified members could skip a loan or Visa payment for a $20 fee. A portion of that fee was then donated to the charity

In conjunction with its recent name and branding launch, Red Canoe Credit

Union, Longview, Wash., has donated funds to the Lower Columbia College Foundation for the purchase of two new scoreboards for the Myklebust Gymnasium and one historic scoreboard for their David Story Baseball Field. Each year, Red Canoe makes a donation to the LCC Foundation to help support student scholarship programs and the Athletic Department. On the night the new scoreboards were unveiled, Red Canoe sponsored both the men's and women's basketball games, gave away free t-shirts to the first 100 fans and tossed toy basketballs into the crowd during time outs. As an added touch, Red Canoe employee Kelle Ogden sang the National Anthem before each game.

Fort Bragg Federal Credit Union, Fort Bragg, N.C., recently invited military families to Webcast messages to their deployed loved ones during Operation Best Wishes. The event was held at the credit union's Hefner Plaza Branch and over 140 families and friends attended. Operation Best Wishes set up a mobile Webcast studio at the credit union and gave families up to 10 minutes to record and send special greetings. The deployed loved one could access the archived recording over and over again.

Security Service Federal Credit Union, San Antonio, recently sent 28 teams to participate in the Credit Unions for Kids 13th Annual Bowl-A-Thon benefiting CHRISTUS Santa Rosa Children's Hospital. Over 165 bowlers from SSFCU supported the worthwhile event, and through fundraising and pledging, contributed over $2,500.

Teachers Federal Credit Union, Famingville, N.Y., was a recent sponsor of the U.S. Department of Energy's Regional Science Bowl at Brookhaven National Laboratory. The local tournament is a fast-paced question-and-answer contest designed to test high school students' knowledge of biology, chemistry, physics, mathematics, astronomy, earth science and general science. For the fourth consecutive year, Ward Melville High School took first place in the bowl. Half Hollow Hills West took second place, Elwood-John Glenn High School placed third and William Floyd High School came in fourth place.

Arkansas Federal Credit Union, Jacksonville, Ark., donated $17,041.74 to United Way of Central Arkansas that it raised during a month-long campaign that included an employee jean week, parking spot give-away, hot dog sale and payroll deductions. Through the campaign the employees and members raised a little more than $8,500, but the board voted to match the money raised, which brought the total to $17,041.74.

White Crown Federal Credit Union, Denver, recently made a $12,580 donation to Urban Peak to help them get homeless youth off the streets. The money for the donation was raised through a popular annual program; credit union members are able to skip a loan payment by paying an administrative fee, a portion of which is then set aside for Urban Peak.

Tower Federal Credit Union, Laurel, Md., recently pulled together its employees and members to help those in need. Each year, Tower sponsors a toy, food and clothing drive to benefit Sarah's House, a local support program and shelter for homeless men, women and children. As a result of the outpouring of contributions, which also included a $250 donation, Sarah's House was able to assist more than 200 people.

With the help of several hundred teddy bears, Guardian Credit Union, West Milwaukee, Wis., ran a successful campaign to raise funds for United Cerebral Palsy of South Eastern Wisconsin. At the close of the campaign, Steve Wesson, president/CEO of the CU, presented $3,500 to Fred Hesselbein, executive director of United Cerebral Palsy of South Eastern Wisconsin. The money was raised through the sale of UCP Ability Bears and UCP wristlets with 100% of the profits benefiting the organization. Its mission is to advance the independence, productivity, and rights of individuals with cerebral palsy and other disabilities and their families. It provides assistance through employment services, respite care and independent living programs and community.

Alliance Credit Union, Fenton, Mo., recently kicked off the Children's Miracle Network Miracle Week fundraising effort. In just six days, Alliance staff and members raised over $600 for Children's Miracle Network. To reach the fundraising goals, each branch sold paper hearts to staff and members. The many hearts adorned each of the lobbies and visually demonstrated the CU's commitment to the cause.
