BREMERTON, Wash. — Kitsap Community Federal Credit Union says a new software solution will allow it to save $120,000 a year in staff time previously spent gathering audit information.
The $691 million CU has deployed the Symantec Control Compliance Suite, automating the process of checking every system and user account to ensure that proper security configurations and permissions are in place.
The software has reduced from more than 40 hours to two hours the amount of IT staff time required to prepare for a security audit, according to Kitsap Community FCU's Technical Security Manager Michael Mally.

The Control Compliance Suite uses a single console to generate reports on such key security issues as users who have access rights, users who have not logged on for the past 30 days, and disabled accounts.
"Within minutes I can define standards and control systems, and view reports that tell exactly which servers are complying and which are at risk," Mally says.
Symantec, based in Cupertino, Calif., is a major provider of anti-virus software and other security, compliance and maintenance solutions.
