SITKA, Alaska — With the pristine Sitka Sound as the backdrop, the Alaska Credit Union League held its annual meeting here May 3-5.
Approximately 100 attendees, which included guests from financial companies and business partners in the Lower 48, enjoyed a beautiful ocean cruise on Sitka Sound, were treated to a live performance by the New Archangel Dancers, and visited Alaska Raptor Rehabilitation Center which included a live, bald eagle presentation.

Attendees also heard from several well know speakers including Juri Valdov, CEO of Northwest Federal Credit Union and past chairman of CUNA, NCUA Chairman JoAnn Johnson, Dr. Jim Likens, president and dean of Western CUNA Management School; and Amy Rapp and Steve Shrader from WesCorp.

Topics covered included financial literacy, legislative action, mergers and conversions, an economic outlook, strategic planning, competition, and electronic processing including Check 21.

The ACUL represents Alaska credit unions at the state level and has been run as an all volunteer state league since 2001, operating without full-time paid staff. Each year the league holds an annual meeting organized by one of the member credit unions.

The league will travel to Juneau, Alaska May 1-3, 2008 for next year's annual meeting.
