WASHINGTON — Co-sponsorship for the Credit Union RegulatoryImprovements Act (H.R. 1537) is gaining ground almost daily.
After adding two co-sponsors last Thursday and one on Tuesday,three more federal legislators added their names as co-sponsors forCURIA late yesterday. Democrats Donald Payne (N.J.), Jesse Jackson(Ill.), and Steven Rothman (N.J.) signed on yesterday; all threewere co-sponsors last congressional session.
These latest additions bring total congressional support for thebill up to 86. In the 109th Congress, the bill reached 125.Lobbyists have been pushing for co-sponsorship to grease the wheelsas CURIA moves through Congress facing strong opposition from thebanking trades.
