WALLINGFORD, Conn. — The Credit Union League of Connecticut, representing 120 affiliated credit unions, will likely join the ongoing legal attempt to recover damages stemming from the TJX card data security breach.
Headquartered in nearby Massachusetts, TJX is the parent corporation for a number of different retail chains and suffered a card data security breach which compromised the data for millions of cards. The company had not been in compliance with industry card data security standards for safeguarding cardholder data.
The legal effort already includes the Massachusetts Credit Union League and several Massachusetts banking associations, according to Kevin Chandler, CEO of the league. The league is also backing legislation that would move the card industry's data standard into state law and provide card issuers for a means of recovering losses from card breaches when those standards are not maintained.
