OGDEN, Utah — Goldenwest Credit Union is racing to raise funds for seven area schools.

Recently the seventh annual 5K for Schools event helped raise over $45,000 for seven local schools.

The event drew a large crowd, with an estimated 2,100 participants and volunteers. One hundred percent of the registration fees were donated to the participating schools, with Goldenwest matching the registration fees dollar-for-dollar at each school.

"The 5K For Schools receives tremendous support from students, parents, and other people throughout the community," said Shelley Clarke, Goldenwest president/CEO. "The need to raise money for schools combined with the thrill of competition has made this annual event one of the largest 5Ks in Northern Utah."

The Goldenwest 5K is a fundraiser for seven local schools–Bonneville High School, South Ogden Junior High, T.H. Bell Junior High, H. Guy Child Elementary, MarLon Hills Elementary, Roosevelt Elementary, and Uintah Elementary.

The schools use the funds to support a variety of programs including athletics and clubs, and to purchase much needed equipment and materials for the schools.

"The money raised through the 5K is used by each school to improve the overall educational experience of our children," continued Clarke. "As a credit union, the 5K fundraiser is one of the best ways that we can give back to the community at large."
